Last month Which Magazine published a great post: “Getting household appliances fixed can be easier than you think”.

They investigated 14 of the most common faults affecting dishwashers, fridge-freezers, ovens, vacuum cleaners and washing machines, and asked a panel of professional engineers if repair was advisable and, if so, how much they would charge.
And it’s very pleasing to hear that in most cases, repair was the recommended course of action-hurray!

And even more pleasing is that at the end of the article, they go on to trumpet DIY repairs and make the point that even given a widely hailed ‘de-skilling’ and a loss of DIY skills, that maybe now it’s easier than ever to fix our own things given the wealth of information and advice available at our fingertips.

What do you guys think?
Do you always attempt a DIY repair first? Would you pay a professional to fix your things? And at what point do you give up on The Fix?
