This article – Waste not want not: Sweden to give tax breaks for repairs – has shown up all over my news feed – 12 times, in fact. Here’s another article with a local viewpoint – Sweden wants to make repairing things cheaper.
My initial reaction, like everyone else, was: “Oh yay!” But I soon realised that Bright Sparks wasn’t registered for the GST (Australia’s goods and services tax of 10%, similar to VAT) because we didn’t make enough money to warrant it, so this new law wouldn’t have changed anything for us or the prices we charged.
I’m really curious to hear from all of you – if your country followed Sweden’s lead, would you be more likely to get stuff professionally repaired? Would it change anything for you?
And if you’ve ever not proceeded with getting something fixed because the quote was too high, would a 10% discount have made a difference? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments (below or over on Facebook)!
